LABSE CSR Project 2019
Page 18 in the Sunday Lankadeepa on 4th August 2019, published the story of PL/DB Manampitiya Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya, in Polonnaruwa, raising funds in an unusual way, to re-build the “Play Area” for Primary section of the School, to facilitate re-opening of the Grade1-5 in 2020, after a lapse of 5 years. The “Unusual way” is to collect “ coconut shells”, for re-selling to collectors, to reach the target of Rs. 200,000.00 for the project.
LABSE CSR committee decided to help the school, situated near Batticoloa Junction about 15kms away from Polonnaruwa, in an area frequently visited by wild elephants, damaging the cash crops of the poor community living there. The Project includes construction of a Retaining wall, repairs to play equipment and landscaping of the area. The total estimated cost is Rs. 201,350.00 and LABSE agreed to meet the entire cost in three stages.
The Project commenced late September and expected to be completed by November2019. The pictures show the site being inspected and the works in progress by mid October 2019. Dimbulagala Community Medical Officer Ayur. Dr. Ms. Nilmini Kuruppuarachchi is coordinating the project on behalf of LABSE, while the Principal Mr. Barana Wijerathna is managing the same with help and assistance of the parents.
